Karisia Hills

Also known as the Leroghi ranges, the forested Karisia Hills lie to the east of Maralal on Kenya’s Northern Frontier. This vast expanse of pristine wilderness features majestic forests of African cedar, prunus, olive trees and sandalwood extending all the way to the northern Rift Valley. Visitors can look forward to excellent walking and camel safaris led by local Samburu guides who possess an impressive depth of knowledge of the forests and the area’s exceptional array of wildlife. The region’s capital is a small hillside market town known as Maralal, where travellers can stock up on supplies and visit a wonderful wildlife sanctuary where game and Samburu cattle graze peacefully together.
