Rakops

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Botswana

About Rakops

Rakops is a small village on the banks of the Boteti River in central Botswana, surrounded by bushveld wilderness. It is served by a small airport and provides access to both the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Makgadigadi Pans National Park. In the Kalahari Reserve you can enjoy viewing wildlife that includes buck, bat-eared foxes, hyenas, cheetahs and the Kalahari black-maned lion, as well as a profusion of birdlife. Makgadigadi Pans National Park sprawls across 7500 square kilometres and encompasses one of the largest salt flats on the planet. During the rainy months, the water-filled pans attract high numbers of migrating antelope and zebra, as well predators that follow them. It has exceptional bird life throughout the year. The Boteti River is rich with fish, offering a perfect pastime for anglers visiting the village.
