About 11-day Northern Circuit Route on Kilimanjaro

This 11-day Kilimanjaro adventure begins with two nights in a private eco-luxe tented camp in Arusha National Park (6,400’), set in the montane forest on Mt. Meru’s slopes. Guests acclimatize with wildlife walks and enjoy views of Kilimanjaro, Meru, and Ngurdoto Crater, along with a climb briefing and gear check.

Day 3 marks the start of the trek at Kilimanjaro’s forest edge, ascending through lush montane and Hagenia forests to the Shira Plateau (11,600’) and Moir Camp (13,600’). The route continues to Pofu Camp (13,200’) with sweeping views over West Kilimanjaro and Amboseli, then to Third Cave (13,000’), a remote camp along the moorland–alpine desert ecotone.

From there, a steady climb leads to School Camp (15,600’), one of Kilimanjaro’s quietest high camps, before ascending to Crater Camp (18,800’) beside the Furtwrangler Glacier. Summit day involves an 800’ ascent to Uhuru Peak (19,340’) at dawn, followed by a long descent to Mweka Camp (10,000’).

The final day brings a 4,500’ descent to the park gate, farewells to the mountain crew, and a return to Arusha for an overnight stay. This carefully paced route offers exceptional acclimatization, diverse scenery, and an unforgettable summit experience.
