About Lava Tower Camp
Lava Tower Camp serves as the starting point just beneath the Tower and is a popular stop for trekkers aiming to climb Kilimanjaro via the Arrow Camp and the Western Breach. Most trekkers using the Machame route arrive at Lava Tower Camp around lunchtime. The ascent of the tower takes approximately one hour. To climb, contour the west face of the tower and navigate through a small gully, then traverse right over an exposed ditch. Continue climbing easily in a southward direction. After about 100 meters, turn left, ascend over leaning rocks, and follow the ridge to the summit. The breathtaking view down to Lava Tower Camp is truly remarkable. The volcanic rock of the Lava Tower is easy to climb, requiring no ropes for safety.
