Soroti

The little town of Soroti, located in the Soroti District of eastern Uganda, is the region's primary commercial and administrative centre. It is known for Soroti Rock, a volcanic rock formation that towers above Soroti town centre and offers scenic panoramic views of Lake Kyoga and Mt. Elgon from the pinnacle. Renowned for its history, the ageing buildings around town give a glimpse into Soroti's rich historical past. Soroti was home to a large Indian population, and today visitors can view ornate Hindu temples, mosques, and Sikh gurdwaras scattered between local clothing shops, butcheries, and restaurants. Visitors can hike through the nearby Bugondo and Ogera Hills and explore the fishing villages around Lake Kyoga, which also offers a variety of thrilling water sports.
