Botswana & Zimbabwe Safari Hideaway

Adventure Beach Family Honeymoon Island Luxury Safari

Escape into the quiet grandeur of Botswana and Zimbabwe on this SMALL GROUP GUIDED TOUR, beginning in Maun and concluding at the iconic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Designed to unfold at an unhurried pace, this small group experience offers a seamless introduction to some of southern Africa’s most compelling landscapes.

Early in your journey, a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta provides a striking perspective from above. From the air, the Delta reveals its intricate patterns—meandering channels, floodplains, and pockets of wilderness that shift with the seasons—offering a sense of scale and subtle beauty that is difficult to fully appreciate from the ground. As you continue through Moremi, Chobe, and Hwange National Parks, each region presents its own distinct character. From the water-filled ecosystems of the Delta to the riverine abundance of Chobe and the expansive plains of Hwange, the diversity of terrain is matched by the richness of wildlife. Along the way, there are opportunities to encounter a wide range of species, observed within their natural rhythms and habitats.

Throughout the journey, a carefully considered itinerary ensures both comfort and authenticity. Accommodation is selected for its setting and sense of place, while most meals and activities are included, allowing you to focus simply on the experience itself. It is a safari defined by balance—combining gentle adventure with moments of stillness, and offering a deeper connection to the landscapes of Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Welcome to Botswana!  Arriving into Maun Airport, you touch down at the quiet gateway to Botswana’s wilderness—a place often described as the country’s safari capital. The town itself is unassuming, yet everything here gently orbits around the vast, watery expanse of the Okavango Delta. From this modest airstrip begins one of Africa’s most remarkable journeys, into a landscape of shifting channels, floodplains, and wildlife-rich islands.

You will be met by your guide and transferred to your accommodation, set along the tranquil banks of the Thamalakane River. The pace here is unhurried, with wide open skies and the soft movement of water setting the tone for your stay. It is a place to pause, settle in, and begin to attune to the rhythms of the bush. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may choose simply to relax and take in your surroundings—perhaps watching the changing light over the river, where birdlife is abundant and the occasional elephant may appear along the shoreline. Alternatively, you might opt for a gentle introduction to the Delta with an optional sunset cruise. Drifting along the Thamalakane as the day cools, the landscape reveals itself in subtle ways, with warm hues reflected in the water and the quiet sounds of evening gathering around you.

It is an understated beginning, and an ideal prelude to the days of exploration that lie ahead.

This small group journey is based in comfortable, mid-range lodges and camps, chosen for their setting—whether within national parks, along quiet riverbanks, or in locations of particular interest. Accommodation varies between lodges, chalets and tented camps, all with en-suite facilities, offering a balance of comfort and a close connection to the surrounding environment.  Travel is undertaken in purpose-built safari vehicles, including well-equipped Toyota Land Cruisers or similar all-terrain options, selected for both comfort and visibility. Large windows, air-conditioning, and spacious seating ensure a relaxed experience, while occasional game drives may take place in open-sided vehicles for a more immersive perspective. Luggage, aside from hand items and photographic equipment, is securely stored on roof racks or trailers to maximise space within the vehicle. Transfers between Kasane and Victoria Falls may utilise smaller vehicles where appropriate.

Journey times across Botswana and Zimbabwe can vary, shaped by road conditions, weather, and border formalities. Distances here are experienced differently, and there is value in embracing the slower pace—taking in the scenery as it unfolds. Where possible, stops are made to ensure comfort along the way. While every effort is made to follow the planned itinerary, adjustments may occasionally be made in the interests of timing, conditions, or overall experience. Breakfasts and dinners are typically enjoyed at your accommodation, offering a relaxed rhythm to each day.

After a relaxed breakfast, you set out by road towards the Moremi region, a journey that gently introduces you to the changing textures of northern Botswana. The landscape unfolds gradually—open stretches of bush giving way to richer, greener terrain as you approach the waterways that sustain this remarkable ecosystem. Along the way, there is a quiet sense of anticipation, as the remote and wildlife-rich Khwai area draws closer.

Your destination is Hideaways Mogotlho Safari Lodge, set on the banks of the Khwai River. Surrounded by mature trees and overlooking the water, the lodge enjoys a peaceful position on the edge of both Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai Community Area—an enviable location that allows for a varied and immersive safari experience. From the comfort of camp, you may already begin to notice the rhythm of the river, where hippos surface in the shallows and herds of elephant move silently along the far bank.  Mogotlho offers an ideal base from which to explore this diverse region. Days here can be shaped at a gentle pace, with opportunities to discover the landscape by mokoro, drifting quietly through reed-lined channels; on foot, with guided game walks that reveal the finer details of the bush; or by vehicle, venturing out on game drives in search of the area’s abundant wildlife.

There is an understated richness to the experience—unhurried, immersive, and deeply connected to the natural world—making it a seamless continuation of your journey into the Okavango’s wild heart.

In the morning, you take to the air in a light aircraft, lifting gently above the Delta’s intricate mosaic of waterways and islands. The flight to Kasane offers a quiet transition between regions—a shifting panorama below as floodplains, woodlands and winding channels give way to the broad sweep of the Chobe River. Before long, you arrive at Kasane, known as the gateway to Chobe National Park, where water and wildlife exist in close and constant harmony.  From here, you head out onto the river itself. A cruise along the Chobe’s fertile frontage provides an unhurried perspective on one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich corridors. Elephants gather along the banks to drink and bathe, pods of hippo drift just beneath the surface, and birdlife moves easily between papyrus reeds and open water. The experience is quietly immersive, accompanied by a leisurely lunch served on board, allowing you to absorb the surroundings at a gentle pace as the river carries you along.

Afterwards, you are transferred to your lodge, where the remainder of the day unfolds at ease. Settle into your surroundings, perhaps with views across the river or into the bush, as the sounds of Chobe settle into the evening.

The following morning begins early, taking advantage of the cooler hours when the bush is most active. Setting out on a game drive through the Chobe landscape, you encounter the rhythms of the park at their most vivid—herds on the move, predators returning from the night’s activity, and the soft light of dawn illuminating the terrain. It is a time of clarity and quiet energy, before the heat of the day gradually rises.  The remainder of your time in Chobe is left unhurried and flexible. You may simply relax at the lodge, perhaps by the pool, watching the changing light and the steady passage of wildlife in the distance.  Alternatively, there is the option to venture out once more—on an additional game drive or a night excursion—deepening your experience of this remarkable landscape at different times of day.

Today, you travel by road into Zimbabwe, where the landscape begins to shift once more as you make your way towards Hwange National Park. The journey itself is part of the experience—a scenic game drive transfer that gradually immerses you in the rhythms of the bush. Wildlife sightings are never out of the question along the way, and the sense of entering a vast and untamed wilderness builds with each passing mile.  On arrival at your lodge, there is time to settle in and absorb your surroundings. Hwange reveals itself quietly—wide horizons, pockets of teak woodland, and the distant movement of animals drawn to waterholes. The atmosphere is calm and expansive, inviting you to slow your pace and ease into the setting. The remainder of the day is yours, whether spent resting in camp or gently exploring the immediate area, attuning to the textures and sounds of this remarkable park.

The following day begins with an early start, setting out for a full day’s game drive through one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. As the light softens across the landscape, the park comes to life. You’ll pause for a relaxed, wholesome lunch in the heart of the bush, surrounded by the subtle beauty of Hwange’s flora and fauna—an unhurried moment to reflect and take in the scale of your surroundings.

Hwange National Park is renowned for its exceptional wildlife and diversity. Vast herds of elephant move across the plains, alongside buffalo and zebra, while giraffe appear with graceful regularity among the trees. Predators roam these same lands, their presence felt even when unseen, and the park supports a number of endangered species. Birdlife, too, is abundant and varied, adding colour and movement to every corner of the landscape.  There is a quiet richness to time spent here—an experience defined not by spectacle alone, but by space, stillness, and the ever-present sense of being part of something ancient and enduring

Day 8 - 9

Continuing your journey, you leave behind the quiet solitude of Hwange and your stay at Hideaways Nantwich Lodge, setting out by road towards one of Africa’s most iconic destinations—Victoria Falls. The drive offers a gentle transition between the stillness of the bush and the growing sense of arrival at a place shaped by both natural wonder and human history.  As you approach, you will cross the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, a structure as evocative as the landscape itself. Here, your guide shares the story of its creation—an account woven with ambition, engineering ingenuity, and colonial history. Suspended above the powerful Zambezi, the bridge offers sweeping views of the gorge below, along with the distant mist rising from the Falls, hinting at the spectacle that lies just beyond.

The following day unfolds at a more leisurely pace, centred around the timeless presence of the Zambezi River. In the late afternoon, you set out on a sunset cruise, gliding slowly along the water as the day begins to soften. Wildlife gathers at the river’s edge, and the sky shifts through warm tones of gold and amber, reflected in the gentle current. There is a quiet stillness to this time of day, broken only by the sounds of the river and the life it sustains.  As evening settles in, you return to enjoy a thoughtfully prepared three-course potjie dinner—an unmistakably Southern African culinary tradition. Slow-cooked over an open flame, the meal is rich in flavour and character, offering a fitting close to the day. It is an experience that blends simplicity with a sense of place, rounding off your time by the Zambezi with warmth and understated elegance.
