Unguja

Known as “The Spice Island,” Unguja is the largest and most populated island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, where beaches, hills, and forests are all within reach. Rolling hills rise through plantations of cloves, cinnamon, and vanilla, while white sand beaches meet clear waters and coral reefs along the coast. Stone Town, the historic centre of Zanzibar City, winds through narrow alleys, carved doors, and bustling markets, serving as the starting point for trips to spice farms and Jozani Forest, home to the Zanzibar red colobus monkey. Northern beaches such as Nungwi and Kendwa attract swimmers and divers, while the east coast, including Paje and Jambiani, draws kite surfers and backpackers. The south hosts Menai Bay Conservation Area for snorkelling and dolphin-watching, and Stone Town’s Forodhani Gardens night market showcases seafood and local dishes.
