Tanga

Tanga is Tanzania’s most northerly seaport city, and the most important port after Dar Es Salaam. The harbour serves as the hub of the town, and here you can find several vibrant markets. Gorgeous beaches stretch to the south of the town – the popular place to be after dark. Visitors can look forward to viewing the faded grandeur of old colonial buildings, visiting Toten Island just offshore, discovering St Anthony's Cathedral, and learning about the history of the area at the fascinating Urithi Tanga Museum. Other highlights include the limestone Amboni Caves, which are filled with stalagmites and stalactites, and the offshore Tanga Coelacanth Marine Park, which provides a sheltered habitat for dugongs and the prehistoric coelacanth fish.
