Welcome to Eastern Usambara Mountains
Located in northeast Tanzania, in the Lushoto District of the Tanga Region, the Eastern Usambara Mountains present a world of tropical rain forests, meandering paths and charming rural villages. Closer to the coast than the mountains in the west, the eastern mountains receive more rainfall, offering a wonderfully cool climate. Explore the pristine tropical forest of the Mazumbai University Forest, and see several culturally significant sites in the Nilo Forest Reserve, including a Holy Water Point along the Kizara Route, where it is believed a Bishop blessed a particular spot and created a spring. The Nilo Forest Reserve is also home to an incredible number of rare, endangered and vulnerable plant and animal species and several beautiful waterfalls and lakes. The Nilo and Lutindi Peaks offer significant challenging hikes rewarded with phenomenal views.
