Masasi

Tanzania

Welcome to Masasi

Set against a backdrop of impressive granite hills and stretching out from the main road, the Tanzanian settlement of Masasi is a rural village surrounded by pretty and wild scenery of shrubland. It provides a charming base from which to travel west towards Tunduru, or north to Nachingwea and Liwale. The 19th-century town is home to an interesting Benedictine monastery founded in 1906 by German missionaries. Discover the history of precious stone mining at Tunduru, the rich traditional cultures at Nachingwea, and see a huge range of animals and birds at the largest game reserve in Africa, the Selous Game Reserve, in Liwale.
