Mount Mulanje

Mount Mulanje is the highest peak in Malawi, rising to an impressive height of 3000 metres. Mulanje is known locally as the ‘island in the sky’ because it rises almost sheer from the plains below and, on misty days, it’s base is shrouded in a haze that creates a magical effect of a floating island. This hiking mecca offers visitors everything from short day hikes to multi-day hikes, which pass over spectacular peaks through dense green valleys and past cascading waterfalls. Visitors can hike up the mountain along a network of trails and camp amidst pristine wilderness. Keep a lookout for wildlife such as ‘klipspringer’ antelope and a diversity of birdlife.
