Welcome to Beamilaka
The town of Beamilaka is the gateway to the Ankarafantsika National Park, a reserve made up of deciduous forests, low scrublands and savannah plains, interspersed with rivers and lakes. The park is a haven for some of the country’s rarest endemic flora and fauna. Guided night walks are an excellent way to experience some of the park’s most elusive nocturnal species, including the fat-tailed dwarf lemur and the golden-brown mouse lemur - which is found nowhere on earth except in the park. Wandering through these forests in daylight hours offers incredible bird watching opportunities, with over 129 resident avian species, while a lake boat ride will allow you to catch glimpses of crocodiles, fish eagles and perhaps even the critically endangered Madagascar big-headed turtle.
