Mitsio Islands

Just off the coast of Madagascar, the cluster of tiny islands of the Mitsio Archipelago shimmers in the Indian Ocean, about 30 kilometres away from the mainland and 55 kilometres from Nosy Be. The Mitsio islands are a paradise for nature lovers, offering a stunning mix of powder-white beaches, dramatic volcanic cliffs, and vibrant tropical greenery. The largest island, Grande Mitsio, is home to charming farming villages like Antakarana and Akalava, while the dramatic volcanic formations of Les Quatres Frères offer a birdwatcher's paradise, teeming with frigatebirds and brown boobies. Tsarabanjina Island, with its volcanic terrain and badamier trees, draws travellers with its picturesque beaches, ideal for relaxation. The coral reefs surrounding Nosy Ankarea provide a rich marine habitat, perfect for snorkelling and diving, where encounters with green turtles, rays, and colourful fish are common.
