Welcome to Mahanoro
Situated in the Atsinanana region along the coast of eastern Madagascar, Mahanoro is a town and also the name of the surrounding commune. This remote town lies very close to the spectacularly scenic Canal des Pangalanes, a series of natural rivers, waterways and man-made lakes extending over 600 kilometres. The name ‘Mahanoro’ means ‘happy- making’ and although the town is set off the well-beaten tourism route in Madagascar, visitors can still enjoy the charms that this hidden gem has to offer. Visitors can look forward to a wide variety of activities including viewing the impressive Chutes de la Sahatsio waterfalls just north of the town, jumping on a scenic boat tour down the canal, and visiting the crumbling lighthouse built in 1936.
