Welcome to Marojejy Nature Reserve
Marojejy is a rugged mountain wilderness in northeastern Madagascar’s Sava Region. It is centred on the Marojejy Massif and features differing forest types at various altitudes, from lush emerald rainforests blanketing the lowlands, montane and cloud forests on the mid-level slopes, and low scrub on the summit. Each of these ecosystems provides a habitat for its own array of bird and animal life, meaning that Marojejy is a place of astounding biodiversity. Among its 45 mammals are 11 species of lemurs - endangered primates that are found nowhere on the planet except Madagascar. These include the extremely rare silky sifaka, considered virtually extinct and found only here and at one other Madagascan reserve. The park is also home to some 150 reptile and amphibian species and over 100 bird species - most notably the striking helmet vanga, with its orange and black body and sky blue beak.
