Betafo

Set in the Central Highlands of Madagascar, in the Vakinankaratra Region of Madagascar, the town of Betafo boasts exceptional scenery, and is home to the rich culture of the Merina people. Visitors can explore the surrounding mountains, or visit the three stunning lakes, Tritriva, Andraikiba, Tatamarina. Vast plains of irrigated rice paddies create unique and astounding photographic opportunities and were nominated to the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Madagascar in 1997 for their beauty and importance. The friendly community welcomes guests and is happy to share their way of life: visitors can take part in agriculture, cattle breeding, brickworks, and pottery and enjoy musical evenings. There are also several initiatives which travellers can contribute to, to help in relieving problems such as reforestation and malnutrition.
