Welcome to Kaimosi
Kaimosi is a town in western Kenya, near the country’s border with Uganda. An interesting place – with a strong Quaker influence and celebrated as the birthplace of writer Khadambi Asalache – Kaimosi is best known as a convenient base for excursions into the magnificent Kakamega Forest National Reserve. This thick, canopied rainforest is said to be the last remaining tract of the ancient Guineo-Congolian Forest, which once spread across the width of Africa. Visitors to this important area can look forward to hiking, camping, wildlife viewing (the reserve is home to a variety of primates) and some of the best birdwatching opportunities in Kenya, with more than 350 species on display. Finally, visitors should note that this area is extremely wet, with the heaviest rains falling from April to May and August to September.
