Welcome to Kericho

Situated in the highlands west of the Kenyan Rift Valley on the edge of the Mau Forest, Kericho is the largest town in Kenya’s Kericho County. The town is best known for its vast tea estates as the area’s equable climate and famously reliable, year-round afternoon rain showers make it the most important tea-growing area in Africa. The town itself is characterised by a charming old world atmosphere and features a village green, a war memorial, and the famous ‘Tea Hotel’ where you can sample some of the local brew. The hotel can also organise a tour of a tea plantation and trout fishing in a nearby river. Other popular attractions include the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha, the largest Sikh place of worship in Africa; the Sacred Heart Cathedral, the second largest Catholic Church in Kenya; and the Chagaik Arboretum, a restful garden surrounded by trees within the tea plantations leading down to a small dam.
