Lake Edward

Southern Queen Elizabeth National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo

About Lake Edward

Located just south of the equator on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lake Edward is the smallest of the famous African Great Lakes. Falling within the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Edward is bordered by undulating hills, low-lying wetlands and the lofty peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains. Its waters provide a habitat for thriving populations of a variety of fish, crocodiles and hippos; while elephants, chimpanzees, lions and an array of other wildlife roam along its banks. The region is also home to an abundance of endemic and migratory birds. Don’t miss out on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward.
