Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

About Barranco Wall

The Barranco Wall, situated near Gilman's Point on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, is a prominent rock formation rising 257 metres above the Barranco Valley. Formed by volcanic activity and landslides between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago, the wall is a key feature on the Machame, Shira, Umbwe, and Lemosho routes. Climbers tackle the Barranco Wall early on day four of their trek, often referred to as the "Breakfast Wall" due to the timing of the climb. The ascent, while steep, does not require technical climbing skills but involves scrambling using both hands and feet. At the top, trekkers are rewarded with stunning views and continue their journey to Karanga Camp.
