About Rubondo Island National Park
Idyllically situated in the southwestern region of Lake Victoria, Rubondo Island National Park is known as the largest island park in Africa - covering around 456 square kilometers of land and water area, including eleven small islets. The park is characterised by vast, verdant forests, stunning savannah, open woodland, papyrus swamp and some remarkable golden sand beaches. With its distinctly remote, secluded feel, the island is an ideal destination for walking safaris, canoeing, fishing, and especially bird watching with its abundance of African Grey parrots, herons, storks, spoonbills, and malachite kingfishers. The island is also home to a profusion of native wildlife including vervet monkeys, genets cats and hippos, as well as non-native animals such as giraffe, elephant, black and white colobus and suni antelope. Experience the laid-back tranquil island lifestyle of this remarkable wilderness all against the backdrop of the spectacular Lake Victoria.
