About Elisabeth Center
Halfway between Mount Meru and the world famous Mount Kilimanjaro lies the Elisabeth Center, a kindergarten and primary school for the children of Kolila Village. The school was established in 2005 with funding from the Florentina Foundation. It is run by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Charles Borromeo. Named after the Sisters of Charity organisation’s founder, Elisabeth Gruyters, the school doubles as a training facility for the youth to learn practical skills such as raising crops, bricklaying, woodwork, sewing, cattle herding, teaching and entrepreneurship.
