About Mayville House Museum
Located in the mountainous town of Swellendam, Mayville House Museum is a century-old museum built sometime between 1853 and 1855. Originally part of the Drostdy property, the museum is a combination of Cape Dutch and Cape Georgian architecture and features a rose garden. Visitors can glimpse into life in 19th-century Swellendam and view the parlour, the main bedroom, the girls’ bedroom, the boys’ bedroom, a dining area and a kitchen.
