About Stellenbosch Mountain
Stellenbosch Mountain rises majestically behind the historic town of Stellenbosch, a key stop on South Africa’s oldest wine route. The mountain, part of the Jonkershoek Mountain range, features popular hiking and mountain biking trails and is adjacent to the Coetzenburg Stadium. It is integrated into the Coetzenburg Estate, Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve, and the Hottentots-Holland Mountains Catchment Area. This region is home to leopards, caracals, klipspringer, and Chacma baboons, while secretive species include honey badgers and mongooses. Birdwatchers can spot kingfishers, black eagles, and sugarbirds. The area also hosts several venomous snakes, including the Cape cobra and puff adder.
