About Glenelly Farm
Led by a French Madame who brings years of Bordeaux winemaking experience and French finesse to the wines, Glenelly Estate is elegant and classic. Glenelly lies in the Idas Valley just before the Helshoogte Pass and is a heritage site. May de Lencquesaing brings experience and wisdom to this young farm.
May only began winemaking in her fifties and now as she moves towards her nineties there are no signs of her slowing down. When visiting the farm you’ll get to view her impressive glass collection displayed throughout the winery. The tasting and cellar areas have canvas, antique furniture and sculpture display cabinets which you can enjoy along with their wine.
Luke O’Cuinneagain is the winemaker at Glenelly Estate and also brings work experience from French wineries with him and a borrowed technique of using ripe stems of the vine whilst fermenting to add freshness to the Glass Collection Shiraz. ‘Lady May’ is their newest and flagship wine. It is a Cabernet Sauvignon which is aged for 24 months in new oak barrels. The sculpture you see on the label is that of May de Lencquesaing at 23 years of age and was sculpted by French artist Maxim Real del Sarte.
