In South Africa, 32% of the population are aged 14 years or less with the average age being only 19 years. This compares with western societies whose mean age is 37 years. Those aged 65 years and over in South Africa constitute only 5% of the population whilst in the west 15% of the population are over 65. Life expectancy in South Africa is 60 years whilst in the west it is 81 years.
The Soweto Community centres mission is to empower orphans, vulnerable and HV/Aids affected children and their families to become self-sufficient, educated and health adults. The centre is an integrated child and family centred programme for orphans, vulnerable, HIV/AIDS affected children, their caregivers and families. It provides care and support and strengthens family structures by empowering not only the children but also the caregivers and families. We provide psycho-social, educational, nutritional and household support programs for our beneficiaries, their families and the community. Its vision is to build a new generation of children for South Africa’s children
