About Le Roux Dorpshuis Museum

Built in 1909 during the Ostrich Feather Boom, the Le Roux Dorpshuis Museum is a historic townhouse that once served as a functional stopover for farmers visiting town for supplies and the quarterly Communion Service. Unlike typical townhouses, this one stood out due to its unique design by a renowned Oudtshoorn architect, featuring modern finishes and a mix of local and imported materials. After restoration, it was transformed into the Townhouse Museum in 1980 and earned national monument status. The museum proudly displays furniture that approximates the original furnishings.
