About 1820 Monument
The 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown commemorates the settlers' contributions to South Africa. Unlike most monuments, this particular one opened in 1974 as an equipped, modern centre of creative thought and activity. This 'Living Monument' is now also a key player in the Grahamstown National Arts Festival every year as the event's anchor and is one of the largest venues used.
