About De Hoop Dam
De Hoop Dam is a gravity dam located near Burgersfort in Limpopo, South Africa. Built on the Steelpoort River, with a wall approximately 1 015 metres long and 81 metres high, the dam is the 13th largest dam in South Africa. The dam has two main purposes. The first is to supply water to towns, industries and communities in the Sekhukhune district. Secondly, to enable the extraction of rich mineral deposits in the eastern Limpopo province.
