About Weenen Nature Reserve

Established in 1975, the Weenen Game Reserve spans 5,000 hectares, characterised by attractive undulating thornveld and features typical inland KwaZulu-Natal acacia savanna with occasional thickets. The reserve offers extensive game-viewing facilities, guided walks, environmental education, and three picnic sites, making it an ideal destination for day visits. With 30 km of tourist roads, visitors can enjoy viewing a diverse range of game, including rhino, giraffe, eland, kudu, zebra, ostrich, hyena, jackal, reedbuck, and duiker. The reserve boasts over 250 recorded bird species, and its three picnic sites are equipped with toilets, running cold water, and barbecue facilities.
