McGregor Museum

Kimberley, South Africa

About McGregor Museum

Originally situated on Chapel Street, the McGregor Museum found its new home in the early 1970s, occupying the historic building of the old Kimberley Sanatorium—the same refuge where Cecil John Rhodes sought shelter during the Siege of Kimberley from 1899 to 1900. Under the stewardship of Ms. Maria Wilman, the first curator, the museum flourished over four decades, evolving into a pivotal institution in South Africa. The exhibits encompass diverse themes, ranging from natural history and the Siege of Kimberley to a Hall of Religions and the acclaimed Ancestors Gallery, chronicling three million years of human history in the Northern Cape.
