About Hillbrow Centre for Boys

South Africa has the second highest number of HIV/Aids patients in the world and it is estimated that 15% of all adults are infected. And the result of this has been that 50% of all the orphans in South Africa is the result of the AIDS epidemic. And 10% of all deaths in South Africa are children aged under 5 years.

In 1983, the centre was established to provide support, in the widest sense, to children who are living on the street and other public places without adequate or apparent adult or family support. The centres focus is to deliver quality support structures for boys aged 8 to 18 years who have been found in major urban and inner city areas. It's outreach program aims to provide its boys with a shelter and a place of refuge. Thereafter to encourage their participation in programs of rehabilitation and renewal. The centres objectives include:

* To limit the boys exposure to the undesirable aspects of street life in particular drugs, petty crime and sexual abuse
* To re-socialise those whose behaviour has become socially unacceptable and provide a sense of self esteem and
* To provide for the boys physical, emotional, educational, health and development needs
