About Cloete's Pass
Cloete’s Pass, located on the gravel R327 road between Van Wyksdorp and Herbertsdale in South Africa’s Western Cape, is a historic mountain pass through the Langeberg range. At this attraction, visitors can drive or cycle along scenic routes, enjoy wildflower displays, and take in panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Activities include exploring the ruins of old toll houses and blockhouses from the Anglo–Boer War, photography of the rugged landscapes, and spotting native flora. Notably, the pass was first built in the 1850s, named after the Cloete family, and is the widest gateway between the Cape coast and the Little Karoo.
