About Museum de Caab

The Museum de Caab documents the development the Drakenstein Valley’s Delta Wine Farm through the individual stories of real people who once lived there, while also contextualising it within the history of South Africa. The 325-year-old Solms-Delta wine estate’s social history is showcased in the Museum van de Caab, located in the original 1740 wine cellar. Near a Later Stone Age site and 1680s lodge remains, the museum focuses on individuals who lived and worked there, from pre-colonial times through colonial viticulture, slavery, apartheid, and into democratic South Africa. The museum features 200 stone plaques honouring enslaved individuals.
