About Sprokieswoud
The Sprokieswoud (Haunted Forest) lies in the western reaches of the Etosha National Park and is the only place in the country where the Sprokiesboom – Moringa ovalifolia – is found growing in large numbers on flat ground as opposed to the rocky outcrops where it usually thrives. These strange-looking trees – with their fibrous, bulging trunks and branches, and gnarled, globular ends – are an interesting sight to behold, particularly at this location, where they occur in dense concentrations, and, from a distance, look somewhat like ghostly figures contorted into strange shapes.
