About Baringo County
Baringo County lies in western Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, roughly 300 kilometres from the capital, Nairobi. The region’s tourism jewels are two lakes - Baringo and Bogoria - both of which feature outstanding birdlife. At Baringo you can see over 450 species, including exotics such as goshawks, nightjars, hornbills and Verreaux’s Eagles, while hippos and crocodiles wallow in its waters. During certain seasons, Lake Bogoria plays host to some two million of flamingos, which descend on its shallow waters in massive flocks of vivid pink. The lake and its shores are dotted with mineral-rich hot springs and encompassed by the Lake Bogoria National Park, which protects wildlife such as cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and various primates.
