Located on Ngong Road west of the city center, the Nairobi War Cemetery is adjacent to the Nairobi race course. Opened in 1941 by the military authorities, numerous graves were transferred to the cemetery from African civil cemeteries and temporary army burial grounds, creating the largest war cemetery in East Africa.
