About Lavington Centre for Children

Lavington Centre for Chlldren
Under the One Horizon umbrella, the centre has grown from a small centre for 10 children to one which now looks after and educates 75 children. The centre is found in a pocket of poverty that are all too frequently found in and around Nairobi. In Kenya it is worth remembering that 45% of the population are less than 14 years of age and infant mortality is appalling high at 57/1000 births. By comparison and in the west, infant mortality is around 5/1000. And with a youth unemployment rate of 60% the challenges for this community play out every day. A range of program initiatives from feeding, clothing and new school infrastructure has meant that the centre is seen as a ‘special’ place in the community. It is a centre where parents know that their children will be fed and educated. The challenge is now to build new school premises to continue to be able to meet the needs of the children.

But to be able to do that we need people to become involved. We believe passionately that people working together can achieve incredible results. Come and be part of our work
