About Kibera School & Community Centre
Our Centre in Kibera
Kibera is a tough place to live and even harder when you are a child. But One Horizons centre in Kibera is both a refuge and centre for learning. It is a ray of light for very underprivileged children in a much challenged community. It is the largest centre in the One Horizon family and provides for over 275 children. In Kenya there are over 2.5 million orphans and within the centre approximately one third of the children are without parents due to the HIV epidemic. And perhaps another third are without adequate parental supervision. That’s why the centre plays such an important role in the children’s lives. And it’s not uncommon for the children to turn up at our centre at 5am in the morning. The centre is, in many ways, a refuge from the perils of a very poor community.
Whilst the challenges of Kibera may seem daunting, it is the resilience of residents and the commitments of staff at the centre which keeps everyone focussed on the desire to create a better life for the children. One Horizon has a range of programs being implemented. Come and be part of an experience that will change your life
