In Kenya 50% of all hospital admissions are the result of infections due to poor hygiene standards and nutritional deficiencies In disadvantaged communities the most basic facilities are often absent. One Horizon's focus has been to reduce the incidence's of preventable childhood illnesses that were having such a negative impact. Our food and sanitation programs are critical if we are to achieve this. The installation of environmentally friendly latrines for the school is a basic need that had to be met. Along with this came hygiene education for the children. It’s as basic as teaching children about ‘washing hands’ with the complication that there is no unpolluted water in the community. Hence fresh unpolluted water is another initiative which will make a huge difference to the centre. The centre is making great progress. It is a beacon of hope in a community with great challenges.
