About Jomo Kenyatta Statue

A masterpiece by the British sculptor, James Butler, the Jomo Kenyatta Statue is an intricate 12 foot double life-size, seated statue of President Jomo Kenyatta. The cast bronze statue shows detailed aspects, including a birthmark on the president’s face and his trademark peep toe sandals. The statue was made in England and shipped by container to Mombasa, then taken to Nairobi and installed in the city center, at the Kenya International Conference Centre. Unveiled in 1973 to mark 10 years of independence, the statue commemorates the legacy of President Jomo Kenyatta who led Kenya from June 1963 to August 1978.
