About Shela
Located just a few kilometres away from Lamu town on the idyllic Lamu Island, Shela is a small fishing village of meandering alleyways, lofty stone homes and the lovely Friday Mosque, dating to 1829. The island is virtually free of cars, therefore, the only ‘transport’ you are likely to meet in its sandy lanes are donkeys, en route to their cool-off point in the shallow waters of Shela Beach. Lamu town is accessible from Shela by foot (roughly 30 minutes) or via a dhow taxi.
