Samatian Island

Samatian Island is a private island on Lake Baringo in western Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. You can go kayaking around the island’s pristine coast and hiking in the lush tropical interior. Various boat tours are offered, from sundowner cruises and fishing trips to day excursions to surrounding islands. Particularly popular is the trip to Giraffe Island, where you can see the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Samatian and the glittering waters around it also support a dazzling array of birds, including aquatic species such as flamingos, pelicans and herons. Other avian residents include Verreaux's Eagles, Gabar Goshawks and Spotted Thick Knees.
