Sedudu Island

Sedudu Island, situated in the Chobe River on Botswana’s border with Namibia, is a scenic fluvial island covering about five square kilometres. Visitors can enjoy boat cruises and wildlife viewing, with elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife making the area a prime attraction within Chobe National Park. Notably, Sedudu Island was the focus of a territorial dispute between Botswana and Namibia, which the International Court of Justice resolved in 1999, affirming Botswana’s sovereignty. The island is uninhabited and experiences seasonal flooding, adding to its unique ecological character and making it a fascinating destination for nature enthusiasts and history lovers.
