About Arusha NP hike and bush lunch

Your day begins with a 9am pickup from your Arusha hotel by your guide in a 4×4 safari vehicle, heading to the little-visited Arusha National Park. This scenic gem encompasses Mount Meru’s 15,000 ft summit and eastern slopes. Meru, a dormant volcano, last erupted just over 100 years ago, though its most dramatic event occurred half a million years ago when the eastern cone collapsed, creating a rich and diverse landscape of forests, gorges, and wildlife.

On arrival at Itikoni Camp, enjoy tea or coffee and use the facilities before setting out on foot with your guide and an armed park ranger. The hike - ranging from one to three hours depending on your preference - meanders along small game trails through montane forest, with chances to spot colobus monkeys, bushbuck, and vibrant birdlife. Along the way, you’ll pass a deep gorge draining the crater, where mineral-rich waters have shaped the environment and wildlife.

The walk leads to a picturesque waterfall, where a beautifully prepared bush lunch awaits. Enjoy a delicious meal and refreshing drinks to the soundtrack of cascading water. After lunch, it’s a short 20-minute walk back to the vehicle for the drive to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
