The Brown-hooded Kingfisher Trail in Wilderness offers a gentle 5 km return walk through indigenous forest along the Duiwe River. Starting near a wooden bridge, the route features stepping stones, shaded glades, and seasonal flora such as Wild Grape and Sagewood. Birdlife is abundant, with sightings of Cape Robin, Knysna Lourie, and Cape Batis. Blue square markers guide walkers to a tranquil pool and waterfall, caution is advised on slippery rocks. Managed by SANParks, the trail requires a self-issue permit and is free of charge. It’s an ideal family-friendly outing, with optional viewpoints and opportunities for quiet nature observation.
