Hakos Guest Farm Stargazing

Hakos Guest Farm is popular amongst those interested in Astrology due to its favourable position near the Gamsberg, 1832m above sea level. There are two proper observatories and other instruments for guests to rent.

The Vehrenberg-Observatory is situated on the first floor in close proximity to the guest rooms. It consists of a shelter with a roll-off-roof and is reached by a winding staircase. Nearby there is a separately accessible observing platform where guests can use their own equipment.

The New Hakos Observatory is about 200m away from the farm house. The roll-off roof slopes downwards giving a view over the horizon. A staircase leads to an observation platform with two sturdy concrete pillars on separate bottom plates, in order to reduce vibrations. Each pillar has a separate power supply. There is also a hard-wired red and white light.
