Hohenstein Lodge Visit to the Mineral Miners

Located in the Erongo area of Nambia, Hohenstein Lodge offers some of the most impressive scenery in Namibia along with abundant wildlife and interesting activities. Visitors to the lodge can join guided half-day hikes to visit the mineral miners who dig for semi-precious stones such as mountain crystal, tourmalines, and aquamarines in the clefts and veins on the steep slopes of the Hohenstein Mountain. A qualified guide takes guests on a 30-minute ride in a Land Rover to the Boulder Forest from where they will hike through the canyon to the mining area where they will have the opportunity to meet and gain insight into the daily lives of the more than 20 people who live in the caves or in tents around the site and spend their days digging for minerals.
