About Sable Mountain Lodge

Sable Mountain opened in December 1999. The lodge is located on a small hill right on the north west boundary of the reserve with lovely views. Sable is made up of 6 stone cottages and 4 tented rooms, all with great views. Guests can enjoy a sun downer drink before dinner in the wonderfully quirky "Land Rover 's Return" pub before heading to a small & intimate restaurant. After safaris in the heat of the day, guests can relax in the freshwater swimming pool and sunbathing terrace. Early mornings or late afternoons at the lodge can be spent at Sable's tree house watching animals drink at the lodge’s waterhole. We offer foot safaris from the lodge in the early mornings.

Sable was one of the first solar powered lodges in the reserve and runs entirely on solar power. Having just 10 rooms, the feel of the lodge is intimate, friendly and relaxed.

The Uluguru Suite
The tented rooms at Sable Mountain offer a unique and immersive experience, allowing you to connect with nature while still enjoying the comforts of modern living. From your private deck, you can marvel at the majestic Uluguru Mountains, which loom large in the distance. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, featuring cozy beds with soft linens and warm blankets to keep you snug during chilly nights. Large windows and mesh panels allow you to take in the stunning views while also letting in plenty of natural light and fresh air. Each tent is equipped with an en suite bathroom, complete with a hot water shower, flushing toilet, and a sink with fresh running water.
The Forest Suite

Sable's six stone cottages boast of generous proportions, featuring makuti thatched roofs and expansive verandas that offer breathtaking views of the lush forest and towering mountains. Each room is equipped with an en suite bathroom, with flushing toilet and shower. Guests can luxuriate in super king-sized beds in the double rooms or opt for the generously sized twin beds in the twin rooms. For added convenience and eco-friendliness, the rooms are powered by their own solar panels, providing ample lighting and hot water.
Mountain View Cottage

Family Villa
This is our newest addition to Sable Mountain Lodge, completed in January 2025. The villa is made up of a large upstairs double room with an en-suite bathroom and 2 twin rooms downstairs, each with en-suite bathrooms. The main bedroom has a large floor to ceiling open front leading out onto a large private balcony, which has comfy chairs to sit in, and enjoy the fabulous open views across to the majestic Uluguru Mountains. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, featuring cozy beds with soft linens and warm blankets to keep you snug during chilly nights. This villa can be booked as an entire unit for larger families or groups or as 2 separate apartments.
