About River Camp
Situated in the northwest Serengeti, just south of the Mara River, River Camp is an ideal location for game driving to the river and exploring the various habitats in the northwest Serengeti. Between the months of July and October, the northern Serengeti hosts massive numbers of wildebeest and zebra that remain in this area for the excellent grazing due to the quality of grassland and occasional rain in this higher altitude. This is the river crossing season, a time for witnessing the perils and triumphs of hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing and re-crossing the Mara River in search of better grazing land. Nearly sixty-five percent of the herds will remain in the northern Serengeti, whereas only 35% will move onto Kenya at the end of July. This portion of the herd returns again to the Serengeti in September and October, making these months even more exciting to experience.
